Why Turkey? Sites of Interest Standard of Living Activities Weather

The answer to 'Why Turkey?' could be simply 'Because it worthwhile'.
And that might well be enough in itself, but why is it that we can say with such confidence that it's worthwhile?

Whether your looking to buy a property for a permanent move, as an investment or as a holiday home then you'd be hard pressed to find a better alternative than Turkey, and within Turkey the Bodrum Peninsular offers great choices for area.

Turkey is one of the top ten holiday destinations world wide attracting around 25 million tourists in 2007, within that Bodrum is one of the most popular choices. And it's expected that this number will rise, "The Turkish Tourism Investors Association (TYD) expects the number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey to rise 12 percent this year, resulting in revenues of up to $21 billion" Turkish daily News

Leading holiday lets website holidaylettings.co.uk says "Turkey offers owners the chance to rent out their properties to holidaymakers for a comfortable profit."

So, as you can see buying on the Bodrum penisular makes a lot of financial sense, not only do you have a holiday home ready and waiting but you could turn a tidy profit as well.

Within the Bodrum peninsular you can find everything you could possibly want, from local life to lively nightlife, quiet villages tosunset from Kadikalesi bustling towns, superb mountain vistas to spectacular sea views. In fact the Bodrum peninsular is worth it for the sunsets alone. What better way to relax than to sit on your own balcony overlooking the sea and watching the sun go down. sunset from TurgutreisOf course it's not all about sunsets.
There are many other things to do and see on the Bodrum Peninsular - we've suggested a few in our 'Sites' section, but a quick run through would include, numerous sites of historic significance, including Bodrum Castle and the site of the Halicarnassos Mausoleum, one of the ancient Seven Wonders of the world, snorkeling and scuba diving in the crystal clear waters of the many beautiful bays, or windsurfing in Yalikavak or Akyarlar. In a recent article the New York Times describe Bodrum town as the next St Tropez, however if St Tropez isn't your thing then you can live the Turkish life in one of the more traditional spots such as the small fishing village of Gümüslük

Bodrum penisular is well served by the Bodrum/Milas airport that puts all towns and villages within a 1½ hr transfer time. The airport is served by good taxi or private hire cars as well as a regular shuttle service to Bodrum Town. The whole area is covered by the local dolmuş or minibus service which makes getting around cheap and easy.

Another good reason for choosing Bodrum is the standard of living you can maintain, your money goes a long way in Turkey, we give a more detailed breakdown on our Standard of Living page, but for example food is relatively cheap but above all it's is extremely good quality. Most fresh food is produced locally on small holdings. Do you remember the taste of tomatoes? well you will once you've eaten a bodrum grown tom. We estimated a shopping basket of basics that cost around £30.00 in the UK to be £10.00

There are bazaars daily all over the peninsular selling everything from fresh fruit and veg, cheese, eggs and other dairy products to clothes and shoes and brushes and pots and pans. But don't worry if you miss the bazaar, there are plenty of supermarkets as well, all offering similar quality produce and products. And if you miss the bazaar and the supermarket or you just don't fancy cooking today then you will find a huge choice of restaurants and cafes offering everything from the finest fish to the tasty snacks of pide or kebab.

Eating out is also good value, a top of the range fish dinner for two with wine or the more traditional raki could set you back as much as £40.00, thats for the two of you! The equally delicious snack of pide with salad and a beer comes in at a more modest £6.00 for two.
Alongside all of this you'll find that the utilities costs compare extremely favourably with the monthly electricity bill averaging out at around £15 per month.

So we've talked about location, standard of living and value for money, but perhaps the most important thing and probably the thing that keeps pople coming back time and time again is the turkish people themselves; always willing to help, always friendly, the turkish people have often been called the best people in the world.
